Pollutant Release and Transfer Register

How to use this site

This website shows the yearly releases (emissions) of the most important pollutants in the Netherlands. You can view these emissions, for example, on a map, graph or table. But you can also download all the details into your own database. The Dutch Pollution Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) is an emission register with a very large amount of data. For a number of years this included hundreds of components, more than a thousand emission sources and hundreds of individual facilities. Emissions to air, water (direct and indirect via the sewage treatment plants) and soil are available per province, municipality, water boards and grid cells of 5 x 5 square kilometres, yielding a total of tens of millions of emissions.
You can explore this information by clicking on one or more of the following links:

Top 10 graphs and maps

The selection "Top 10 maps" offers you general maps of the most important emissions, e.g. emission to air per municipality. This map shows the total emissions in the Netherlands for one compound and the last year. You can select other compounds, years or source of the emission. Use the button [Refresh map] to show the new selection. Click on an icon in the box to the left to select the function to use in the map: to zoom in or out , move , print or ask with for the emission details
N.B. The selection of sources and components is limited. However you can expand this selection with the Tab [Selections - general] and [Selection - sector/activity]

Top 10 Sources

Selecting this option shows the largest emissions sources of the desired compound. From the list you can select a category and compartment. You can change the options like number of rows displayed, measure units, starting year and top 10 year in the options screen. The graph and table are downloadable in CSV format.

facilityreport

Trough this section you can review complete facility reports, all known emission information is displayed for all compounds and compartments availeble. Emissions will be shown in kg/year. Using the input fields the facility list can be filtered for easy browsing and finding the one specific facility of interest. After opening a facilityreport it can be printed one facility at the time.

Make your own graph or map

With "Make your own graph or map" you can select compartment (to air, soil or water), along with the compounds and emission source you want to be shown. The page shows you several tabs, 1 select, 2 show, 3 export and settings. Trough the tabs 1a you can select what emissions you want to be shown, to air, water or soil what compounds should be used. Tab 1b shows the selection treeview screen for emission sources by default national totals per compound are shown. You can continue by choosing to display the data in a graph or map by going trough to tab 2 or selecting the appropriate button to go directly to map or graph. After reviewing the graph on our webpage you can save the data to your own pc by using the export to excel option below the graph. This will result in a dataset exactly as it is shown in the graph. Mapdata cannot be directly downloaded. Chosing tab 3 export you will go to the export page revealing options to export data with or without georeference. Check the apporpriate separator and formatting before exporting. Additionally you might want to check the settings tab to see if the Units need to be adapted.

International reporting

With the addition of international reporting we added tables that are reported by PRTR in light of international treaties. These report differ from usual PRTR reports due to triety specific rules for reporting. For now we are showing Greenhouse gasses as reported for Kyoto protocol. And National Emission Ceiling reports for Air pollution directive.
